Congrats to Cheyenne Woods and Glen Woods (daughter/father) triathletes from Mayes County for the participation in the Claremore Tri last weekend.  Glen reports that Cheyenne finished 4th even though she was bumped up and competed with 18 and 19 year olds.  Glen finished 16th in his age division.  A good showing for our local folks.

A reminder about the Flower Power ride in Muskogee this Saturday.  I’m planning on going.  Call me at 825-4555 if you want a ride.  The ride begins and ends at Honor Heights park.  Should be really pretty there as all the azaleas are blooming….along with other things!

Local ride is 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.  We’ll meet at Whitaker Park’s southwest corner.  Come join us….we did 20 miles last weekend…and although we tried to stay out of that south breeze (25 mph) we hit it a few times…good training for summertime Oklahoma riding!

And the bicycle quote for the week…..

It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.  Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.  ~Ernest Hemingway

Tri’s

In a comment to the last post, Glen invites us to watch a spectator friendly triathalon this weekend in Claremore.  Make sure you take a look at this comment post.  I am very lucky that entry for the event was full on Wednesday, as I almost got entered by Bob in this event.  That would have been interesting, to say the least!

Bi’s

Two chances to ride in organized bicycle rides in the next two weeks.  This Saturday, April 19 is the Tour de Tick in Neosho…just about an hour and fifteen away.  There’s the Deer Tick Tour which is 26.5 miles, the Wood Tick Tour 62 miles and the Dog Tick Tour…100 miles.  Start finish is near Crowder College.  If you want more info…see the previous posts to find the entry form and directions to the start line.

Saturday, April 26 is Flower Power at Honor Heights Park in Muskogee.  Should be a great day.   There’s also more info on this ride in a previous post.

PLUS……If you are interested in a fellowship Sunday ride…we’re meeting at 2:00 p.m. this Sunday, April 20 at southwest corner of Whitaker Park for at least 20 miles of Pryor environs.  Come join us….forecast is for 77 degrees! Celebrate Spring with us on Sunday.

And finally….as cyclists, we are all concerned about our health and well being.  As osteoporosis is a genetic problem in my family, I have done some “internet” research to find that cross-training is very important to keep my bones strong.  So I thought I’d share this article from Bicycling Magazine.  It has appeared in several blogs and has some very important and timely advice.

This article on osteoporosis and cycling was written in 2004 by Roy M. Wallack and appeared in Bicycling Magazine.

Happy Cycling…and hope to see you Sunday at 2:00 at Whitaker Park.

Looks like we’re going to have a “window of opportunity” this Saturday, April 5 to ride without rain.  Wayne Richardson, Valerie Borum and myself decided last night at cycling class to take a ride.  We’d love to have you join us for a recreational ride around 9:30 a.m. taking off  from my house, 1708 Woodhaven Lane (the cul-de-sac just off the corner of 17th and Vann near St. Mark’s Catholic Church).    We’ll be out an hour or two….just a spring warm up ride to get the blood flowing.

And if you want to join us before the ride, I’ve got FREE Rotary Pancake/Sausage Breakfast tickets to the first 10 takers.  Who says there’s no such thing as a free breakfast?  Email me at rlozark@sbcglobal.net and I’ll deliver them to you.

Air up those tires and we’ll see you on Saturday, 9:30 a.m.
